2017 Volunteer Committee Descriptions


PLEASE NOTE: Several 2017 Dominion Energy Charity Classic volunteer committees have been closed. See below.


A committee's designated days of operation are subject to change. Committee Chairman will communicate a more detailed schedule closer to the tournament.

 

Apparel (CLOSED): Inventory, maintain, and distribute volunteer uniforms and credentials. Assist with apparel exchanges and sales of past apparel. Volunteers will need to be available prior to the Tournament (days and times TBD) to assist with preparing and distributing volunteer packages during apparel distribution. Assist with fulfillment of volunteer orders and sales during Tournament week. Some lifting of boxes containing volunteer apparel is required.  Days of Operation: Packaging Days (pre-tournament, dates TBD) Distribution Days (September 15 - 17) and Thursday, October 19 – Sunday, October 22

Admissions / Will Call (CLOSED): Sell tickets and exchange coupons at the admission gate(s). Check for proper admission credentials and prohibited items, sell Official Tournament Programs and distribute Daily Pairings Guides to spectators at all entrance gates. Days of Operation: Wednesday, October 18 – Sunday, October 22

Caddie Services (CLOSED): Register professional caddies. Distribute towels, issue caddie bibs, and oversee caddie hospitality. Days of Operation: Monday, October 16 – Sunday, October 22

Corporate Hospitality (CLOSED): Greet guests and check for proper credentials at entrances to hospitality locations. Assist Marshals with noise control when players are approaching hospitality areas. This position may require some standing. Days of Operation: Thursday, October 19  – Sunday, October 22

Course Prep: Rope and stake course and all ancillary areas as specified. Committee will install stakes & ropes before the Tournament, maintain rope lines throughout Tournament week and remove stakes & ropes after the event. Must be willing to work outside and perform physical labor as this committee requires significant lifting. Much of committee’s work is accomplished the week prior to the event. Advance Preparation: 1 full day in advance of the tournament for installation.  ½ day post competition for removal. Days of Operation: Friday, October 13 – Sunday, October 22

Golf Carts (CLOSED): Allocate golf carts to Champions Tour Staff, Chairs, Coordinators and Operations. Maintain a sign in/sign out sheet and assign cart signage to individual carts. Ensure cart keys are returned and that carts are charged and cleaned daily. Days of Operation: Saturday, October 14 – Sunday, October 22

Golf Channel/TV Spotters (CLOSED): Assist Golf Channel with Tournament responsibilities including carrying microphones and equipment and relaying Tournament information to Golf Channel staff. This committee requires some golf knowledge, ability to walk the golf course/keep pace with their assigned group, in addition to minor lifting. Only one shift per day - must be able to work entire day (shifts are approx. 6 hours). Committee days: Friday, October 20 – Sunday, October 22

Honorary Observers (CLOSED): Help to coordinate the honorary observer program in which selected guests are granted access to walk inside the ropes with each match.  Assist with credential distribution, review specific guidelines and restrictions with each guest prior to their tee time, and manage photo process at the 1st tee and 18 green. Days of Operation: Friday, October 20 – Sunday, October 22

Long Drive (CLOSED): Measure and record the yardage of a professional's ball on the fairway using scoring devices provided to you by Champions Tour staff.  Mandatory ShotLink training is required and standing may be required for long periods.  Days of Operation: Friday, October 20 – Sunday, October 22

Marshals (Holes 1 – 18 and Practice Area): Provide gallery control, assist in player movement, help locate errant golf shots and provide spectators with general information as needed. Marshals will also assist with the movement of players on and off the course due to rain delays or whenever deemed necessary. This committee requires standing for extended periods of time in addition to walking to various positions around assigned hole. Days of Operation: Wednesday, October 18 – Sunday, October 22

Media Center (CLOSED): Assist the PGA TOUR Champions staff in registering, welcoming and providing credentials to local, national, and international journalists. Answer phones, produce daily clippings and provide scoring information to the media as needed. Days of Operation: Monday, October 16 – Sunday, October 22

Office Support (CLOSED)Assist the Tournament Office Staff prior to and during the Tournament with general administration of the office including answering phones, assisting with mail, making photocopies, etc.  Advance Support: 1-2 weeks leading up to the tournament. Days of Operation: Monday, October 9 – Sunday, October 22

Player Services (CLOSED): Assist the tournament staff with the registration of PGA TOUR Champions Professionals.  Committee will provide assistance and coordinate attendance for local activities for players and their families.  Works closely with the PGA TOUR Travel Representative. Days of Operation: Monday, October 16 – Sunday, October 22

Player, Caddie & Media Shuttles (CLOSED): Provide golf cart transportation for amateurs and players to various TBD routes needed for the day, during both pro-am and competition days. Days of Operation: Monday, October 16 – Sunday, October 22  

Player Transportation: Provide transportation for players, their families and VIP guests before, during and after the Championship, to and from hotels and airports. Must be over the age of 25, have a valid, U.S. issued, unrestricted driver’s license, and cell phone. Committee is operational Friday prior to the Championship through Monday following the Championship. Volunteers may also be required to work in advance of tournament week. Days of Operation: Saturday, October 14 – Sunday, October 22

Pro-Am Caddie (CLOSED): Provide caddie services to amateur participants in the Dominion Energy Charity Classic Official Pro-Am.  Caddie experience is not required but golf knowledge is a must and familiarity with The Country Club of Virginia, James River Course is a bonus. Must be able to carry a golf bag and walk 18 holes without a break. Also open to youth, ages 15-18. Day of Operation: Wednesday, October 18 – Thursday, October 19

Shipping and Receiving (CLOSED): Record shipments received and deliver to Tournament grounds - distribute to appropriate areas. Responsible for distributing Tournament Programs and Pairings Guides to committees and on course locations. Committee requires some lifting.  Days of Operation: Monday, October 16 – Sunday, October 22

Special Events (CLOSED): Assist in set up, registration and gift distribution for specific events and activities during Tournament week including: Pro-Am Pairings Party, Pro-Am Days, Executive Women’s Day and any Military Appreciation activities. Committee requires minimal lifting (gift items) and availability prior to tournament week. Days of Operation: Monday, October 16 – Sunday, October 22

Spectator Shuttles (CLOSED): Provide cart transportation for spectators from various points on or around the golf course. Provide transportation for disabled spectators. Must be 25 or older with a valid, U.S. issued driver’s license to operate a golf cart. Days of Operation: Thursday, October 19 – Sunday, October 22

Standard Bearers: Accompany each group of professionals during play and display their scores on a standard sign. Must be able to carry a standard sign (weighs approximately 5-7 pounds) and walk 18 holes without a break. Also open to youth, ages 13-18. All volunteers are required to work the Wednesday Pro-Am in addition to 2 other shifts. Days of Operation: Wednesday, October 18 – Sunday, October 22

Supply Distribution (CLOSED): Distribute beverages and snacks from designated locations to all holes on the course, scoring tents, practice range, media center, volunteer village, and other designated areas. Must be 18 years of age or older with a valid, U.S. issued driver’s license in order to operate a golf cart and also have the ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Days of Operation: Sunday, October 15 – Sunday, October 22

Tournament Hosts (CLOSED): Greet spectators at entrance to the tournament; Provide tournament information and directions to spectators at various locations throughout the course. Day of Operations: Thursday, October 19 – Sunday, October 22 

Volunteer Village (CLOSED): Manage tent where volunteers check in with their respective Committee Chairs as well as come for snacks & beverages in between their shifts. Maintain a clean and supportive meeting place for the volunteers. Days of Operation: Monday, October 16 – Sunday, October 22

Walking Scorers (CLOSED): Record the scores and statistics of play on handheld PDA devices during the Wednesday Pro-Am and all competitive rounds. Must be able to walk 18 holes without a break. Volunteers will receive training on how to use the PDA device. All volunteers are required to work the Wednesday Pro-Am in addition to 2 other shifts.  Days of Operations: Wednesday, October 18 – Sunday, October 22
